LIOUVILLE SURFACE
Joseph Liouville (1809-1882): French mathematician.
See: http://fr.scribd.com/doc/52993838/72/Liouville-surfaces |
A Liouville surface is a surface that can have a parametrization for which the first fundamental quadratic form is reduced to the form .
Example: the surfaces of revolution and the surfaces that are applicable to them.
They were studied by Liouville because of the fact that their geodesics can be obtained by quadrature.
